     Program

    Meetings and seminars

PEA plans to canvas professional editing issues that relate to the publishing industry as a whole. We will hold regular meetings, including regional meetings.

These meetings will include, for example, the aims and directions of PEA, progress with national initiatives such as accreditation, the establishment of the national organisation, a PEA presence at the 2009 national conference in Adelaide and a broad perspective on professional editing. We welcome your suggestions about topics for future workshops and other training activities. Please tell us.

The importance of corporate and web editing, project management, developments in academic editing and the questions of rates are in our sights.

PEA has initiated dialogues with many industry groups and intends to deepen links with bodies such as the MEAA, the ASA, LitLink, the APA, CAL, the Arts Law Centre, ANZSI, the Galley Club and AGDA and writers' festival organisers. These links will be reflected in and integrated into our activities.

    Professional development

PEA will offer a structured program of professional development, ranging from basic training in copyediting and proofreading to specialist areas including book design, financial management for editors, academic, legal and scientific editing.

PEA also plans an editors’ residential training program and developing a mentorship scheme in 2009.

    Celebrations

We're not just professionals. We also have fun. PEA offers its members occasions for networking, letting your hair down and enjoying the fun side of editing. Let there be music and feasting!

    Consultation

While our plans are well advanced, we welcome your input and intend to operate as an inclusive and democratic organisation. Please take the time to fill in the survey that asks you what you would like to see on our program.

    Networking and communication

PEA is an advocate for the profession. Keeping in touch with the industry and keeping in touch with each other are equally important aims. We plan to keep members up to date with what's happening in editing and the broader publishing world through a newsletter, website and electronic list.
